Castello pipes are known as the Rolls Royce of Italian pipe companies, carrying on their pipe making traditions that were initially established in 1947. This was when Carlo Scotti and his team made their very first pipe after a total of seven months of experimenting and carving. By 1950 they had introduced the acrylic mouthpiece to the pipe smoking world.

Only the highest grade briar block is used in the manufacturing process. Even before any Castello pipe is carved it is designed according to set dimensions and shapes to bring out the very best in the wood. Castello firstly shape the bowl, followed by drilling the shank and bowl chambers. Each and every pipe is hand-made, with each of the six pipe makers performing all of the pipe making functions. The majority of their pipes, some 60 per cent of the 6000 annually produced, remain in Italy. The rest are shipped worldwide.
Castello pipes are carved only from the finest briar. This will have been seasoned for at least six years, a standard which most pipe companies cannot claim to have. A Castello pipe has slick and elegant lines, the straight grain being impeccable, as is the balance. Most of Castello's designs are classic and fairly conservative in nature. This even applies to the freestyle Castello's, which are also very conservative. Castello also remains true to Italian traditions by only making medium size pipes.
